- At 24 clips a month per person, the 25-video cap is reached in about 31 days, then old videos must be deleted.
- Same video as a local MP4: about 48 MB. Too big for a Gmail attachment (25 MB, Gmail offers a Drive link instead); fits Slack’s 1 GB file limit.
Bobbin Pro is optional: $24 once or $4.99 a month (founding price) per person, and only adds 4K/60fps where supported, bubble styling, auto-stop and custom file names. Bobbin Free already has no time limit, no video limit and no watermark.
How the numbers work
- Loom's paid plans: Loom's pricing page lists Business at $18 and Business + AI at $24 per user per month. Loom says paying annually saves 17%, so monthly billing costs more; type your own price if it differs. The yearly figure is people × price × 12.
- Loom's free Starter plan: screen recordings are limited to 5 minutes, each person can keep up to 25 videos, quality is up to 720p, and Starter users can't download their videos (Loom's help centre lists downloading as a Business feature). A 12-minute walkthrough therefore becomes three separate clips, and each clip counts toward the 25.
- File size: based on our own test, where an 11-minute 1280×800 screen recording made with Bobbin was 45 MB (about 4 MB per minute). Size depends on resolution, frame rate and how much moves on screen, so yours will vary.
- Sharing limits: Gmail attachments are limited to 25 MB (larger files are sent as a Google Drive link) and Slack accepts files up to 1 GB, per their help pages.
What the price difference buys
The calculator compares recording costs, not like-for-like features. Loom's paid plans include hosted share links, comments, viewer insights, transcripts and editing. Bobbin doesn't host videos or make share links, and it has no editing, transcripts, comments, viewer analytics, team workspace or mobile app. If your team relies on links and analytics, Loom (or another hosted tool) is worth paying for. If people mostly record a walkthrough and drop the file in Slack, Drive or a ticket, a local recorder covers it for free.
Bobbin records your screen, a window or a tab with a webcam bubble (or just the camera) and saves an MP4 on your computer, with no account and nothing uploaded. More detail: Loom's free plan limits, ways around the 5-minute limit and Bobbin as a Loom alternative.
