The short version
- The 5-minute cap is a Starter plan limit; only a paid plan removes it inside Loom.
- If you must stay on Loom for free, split into parts, but each part counts toward the 25-video limit.
- If you just need a longer video file, record with a tool that has no time limit and share the file.

1. Split the recording into parts
Plan your video as chapters of 4 to 5 minutes and record each as a separate Loom. Name them "Part 1 of 3" and so on. It works, but on Starter each part counts toward the 25-video limit (archived videos count too), and viewers have to click through several links.
2. Use Loom's free trial
Loom's pricing page offers a trial of a paid plan. During the trial the 5-minute cap doesn't apply. Plan a batch of long recordings for that window, and note that you'll be back on Starter limits if you don't subscribe.
3. Teachers and students: the education discount
Loom's legacy free Education plan is no longer available to new applicants. Verified educators and students can apply for a discount on paid plans through Loom's verification process (Loom help: education discount verification).
4. Ask for a seat on your company's workspace
If your company already pays for Loom, ask an admin to make you a Creator on the paid workspace. Your recordings then follow that plan's limits.
5. Upgrade to Business
Loom Business is $18 per user per month on the pricing page ($24 with AI). It removes the recording-length and video-count limits and adds downloads.
6. Record with a tool that has no time limit
If you don't need Loom's link, comments or viewer insights, you can skip the cap entirely. Bobbin is a Chrome extension that records your screen and webcam with no time limit, no video limit, no watermark and no account, and saves an MP4 on your computer. Then share the file through Google Drive, Slack or email.
- Install Bobbin in Chrome, Edge or Brave.
- Click the icon, choose Record screen, window or tab, pick your mic and camera.
- Record as long as you need. Pause with Alt+Shift+P; stop with Alt+Shift+S.
- Download the MP4 from the Library and share it.
In our own test an 11-minute recording saved and played back cleanly. Other no-limit options include Screenity (free, open source) and your computer's built-in recorder. See free screen recorders with no watermark.
What doesn't work
- Pausing doesn't give you more time: the limit is on recorded length.
- Recording elsewhere and uploading to Loom: Loom lists uploading and downloading videos as a Business feature.
- Making extra free accounts to dodge the limit can conflict with Loom's terms and scatters your videos across accounts.
For every other Starter limit (25 videos, 720p, no downloads), see Loom free plan limits explained.
