Tella vs Screenity: which screen recorder should you use?

Tella and Screenity both turn a screen-and-camera recording into a polished video, but they are priced very differently. Tella has no free plan; Screenity's Chrome recorder is free and open source, and only its cloud editor costs money. Here is how they compare, checked on their own pages on 26 October 2026, and what to use if you need neither.

Quick answer

  • Choose Tella for the strongest editor: transcript editing, AI mistake and filler-word removal, layouts, up to 4K and 6-hour clips, native Mac and Windows recorders. From $13 per user/month billed yearly; 7-day trial, no free plan.
  • Choose Screenity if you want a free recorder with drawing, blur and a camera bubble, and maybe a cheaper editor later ($10/month billed yearly).
  • Choose neither if you only need the raw recording as a file: a simple free recorder is enough.

When Tella wins

When the video is a product in itself: a launch video, course lesson or polished tutorial. Tella's editor lets you fix mistakes by editing the transcript, removes silences and filler words, switches layouts and adds styled subtitles, and its Tella Agent edits from a chat (Pro includes 3,000 credits per user a month). After the trial, your videos stay viewable and shareable, but recording, editing and exporting are locked until you subscribe.

When Screenity wins

When you want to record for free, keep the file and annotate as you go. The free recorder needs no account, has no watermark or time limit, and saves locally. If you later want scenes, auto-zoom, word-by-word captions and share links, its single Pro plan is cheaper than Tella Pro on yearly billing.

When you need neither

If you just need the raw recording as a file for Slack, Drive, a ticket, your LMS or your own editor, Bobbin is a simpler free option: a Chrome extension that records your screen, a window or a tab with a webcam bubble (or camera only), your mic and tab audio, and saves an MP4 where Chrome supports it. No account, no watermark, no time limit, no video limit, and every second is written to disk as you record, so a crash doesn't lose the take. It asks for no access to the websites you visit. Optional Pro is $4.99/month or $24 once (founding price) for 1440p/4K and 60 fps where your screen and computer support it, bubble styling, an auto-stop timer and custom file names, with a 7-day refund. Founding price for the first 100 buyers. Then $39 lifetime / $5.99 per month.

Bobbin doesn't host videos or make share links, and it has no editing, transcripts, comments, viewer analytics, team workspace or mobile app. If you want drawing or blur for free, Screenity has them and Bobbin doesn't.
