Who makes Bobbin
One person, the owner, is behind Bobbin: an individual sole trader based in Pune, India. It is an independent product with no advertising business behind it. The same person builds the extension, tests it, writes and checks the guides on this site, and answers support email.
Where the guides say "the Bobbin team", that means the owner and the research and writing tools the owner works with. How those guides are researched, fact-checked and corrected is set out in the editorial policy.

What Bobbin is for
Most screen recorders upload your video to their cloud and ask you to make an account first. That suits some teams, but plenty of people just need a file: a bug report for a ticket, a lesson for Google Classroom, a walkthrough for a colleague, a clip for a portfolio. Bobbin is built for them.
- No account and no uploads. Recordings stay on your computer until you download or delete them.
- No watermark and no time limit on the free plan, up to 1080p at 30 fps.
- Works where Chrome works, including Chromebooks, which many recorders don't support well.
It is deliberately small. Bobbin doesn't host videos or make share links, and it has no editing, transcripts, comments, viewer analytics, team workspace or mobile app. If you need those, a cloud tool is the better fit, and our local vs cloud guide explains the trade-off.
Who uses it
Bobbin is aimed at Chromebook users, students and teachers, people on async teams, QA testers and anyone filing bug reports, and creators who want a recorder without an account or a watermark. The guides hub has a starting point for each.

How Bobbin is tested
Every feature claim on this site comes from a written list of verified behaviour that is tested in Chrome, not from marketing copy. That includes full-length recordings (a 60-minute and a 2-hour recording at 1080p, both decoded end to end) and the file sizes they produced. Where something could not be tested, we say less rather than more: for example, we say Bobbin "saves an MP4 where your browser supports it (WebM otherwise)" rather than promising a format everywhere. The facts page lists what Bobbin does and doesn't do.
How Bobbin makes money
The free plan is the product, not a trial. Optional Pro adds higher resolutions and a few extras, and there are two paid template packs, The Async Video Playbook and The Bug Report & QA Kit. Payments go through our merchant of record, Dodo Payments, with a 7-day refund on every Pro payment (refund policy). There are no ads, we don't sell data, and the guides contain no affiliate links.
Privacy, in one paragraph
The extension has no account, no analytics and no trackers. Its permissions are storage, unlimitedStorage and alarms. The only network request it makes is the Pro license check with our payment provider. Details are in the privacy policy.
