Quick answer
Start Bobbin → Record screen, window or tab → Start recording → in Chrome's picker choose the Chrome tab → keep "Also share tab audio" on → Share. Only that tab is recorded, with its sound and your mic. Trade-off: the webcam bubble doesn't appear in single-tab recordings.
Why record a tab instead of the screen
- Privacy. Notifications, chat pop-ups, bookmarks and other tabs stay out of the video.
- Sound on every OS. Chrome captures a tab's audio on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. Whole-screen system audio only works on Windows and ChromeOS.
- Clean framing. The video is just the page, without the browser toolbar.
Step by step
- Open the tab you want to record.
- Click the Bobbin icon → Record screen, window or tab. Tick Microphone for your voice and Tab / system audio for the tab's sound.
- Press Start recording. In Chrome's picker, choose the Chrome tab option, select your tab and leave Also share tab audio on.
- After the 3-second countdown, work in that tab. If the Bobbin icon is pinned, its badge shows the timer.
- Pause with Alt+Shift+P, stop with Alt+Shift+S (or Chrome's Stop sharing), then press Download.
Want your face too?
The webcam bubble is a small floating window, so it shows in screen and window recordings, not in single-tab ones. If you need your face, record the Chrome window instead (put the tab in its own window to keep other tabs out), or record a short camera-only intro with Bobbin's camera-only mode.
Tab vs window vs screen
| Tab | Window | Entire screen | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shows other apps/notifications | No | No | Yes |
| Computer sound | Tab audio, every OS | No | System audio on Windows/ChromeOS |
| Webcam bubble | No | Yes | Yes |
| Best for | Web app demos, videos, bug reports | One app with your face | Switching between apps |
Free records up to 1080p with no watermark and no time limit; Pro adds 1440p/4K and 60 fps where supported. Bobbin saves MP4 where your browser supports it (Chrome 126 or newer), WebM otherwise, and tells you which it used.
