Quick answer
Post the same five lines every day: yesterday, today, blocked, needs a look, and an optional video. When you record, keep it to 45–60 s and show the thing instead of describing it.
Written async standup (Slack / Teams)
Async standup: [NAME], [DATE]
Yesterday: [WHAT SHIPPED OR MOVED, WITH LINK]
Today: [THE ONE THING THAT MATTERS MOST TODAY]
Blocked: [NONE / WHAT, AND WHO CAN UNBLOCK IT]
Needs a look: [PR / DOC / DESIGN LINK, OR NONE]
Video (optional, under 60 s): [LINK OR ATTACHED FILE]The script: Daily async standup (45–60 s)
Use when: Every day, in place of (or before) a live standup. Distributed teams across time zones.
Set up:
- Open your task board filtered to you
- Decide your one blocker before recording (or "none")
| Time | Show / beat | Say (fill the [blanks]) |
|---|---|---|
| 0–5 s | Who + date | [NAME], [DAY]. |
| 5–20 s | Done | Done since last update: [ITEM], [ITEM]. [ITEM] is [VISIBLE OUTCOME — show it]. |
| 20–35 s | Next | Today: [ITEM], aiming to finish [ITEM] by [TIME]. |
| 35–50 s | Blocked | Blocked on: [BLOCKER] — I need [PERSON] to [ACTION]. / No blockers. |
| 50–60 s | FYI (optional) | FYI: [ONE THING OTHERS SHOULD KNOW]. |
Why it works: Show, do not list: ten seconds of the actual thing you finished beats a minute of ticket titles.
Close: Tag the person you are blocked on in the message, not just the video.

Keep the script open on a second screen or a printed page, and record in one take; pause between sections instead of stopping. Bobbin is a free Chrome extension that records your screen, a window or a tab with your microphone and an optional webcam bubble. No account, no watermark, no time limit, and nothing is uploaded: the file stays on your computer.
- Click the Bobbin icon in Chrome's toolbar and choose Record screen, window or tab.
- Pick your microphone and turn on the camera if you want the webcam bubble.
- Press Start recording, choose what to share in Chrome's picker, and wait for the 3-second countdown.
- Pause with Alt+Shift+P, stop with Alt+Shift+S, then press Download to save the file.
Share a window or the entire screen so your webcam bubble is in the video (it doesn't appear in single-tab recordings). Bobbin saves MP4 where your browser supports it (Chrome 126 or newer), WebM otherwise, and tells you which it used.
File size: our 60-minute 1080p test came to about 246 MB (roughly 4 MB a minute) on a simple synthetic screen; busy real screens can be larger, so a 1–2 minute clip is usually small enough to attach.
